Strolling hand in hand across the dunes as the sun slowly sinks into the sea and bathes the sky in warm colours – a moment that touches the heart. A sunset like this on the Höhenpromenade is the perfect opportunity to share your thoughts, recount stories from the day, or simply say nothing at all. And to let the sea of lights work its magic on you. Ah, how lovely.

A beach chair, two people, the steady sound of the North Sea in your ears – sometimes that’s really all it takes for a perfect afternoon. You can hire beach chairs on the main beach; sheltered from the wind, you can sit here for hours and watch together as the light changes over the water.

Quiet, secluded and with a touch of melancholy: the dune cemetery, strewn with shells, is a place for quiet conversations and peaceful moments for two. Especially in the early evening, when there’s hardly anyone about, this spot takes on its very own, almost poetic atmosphere.

After a long walk together, the high street, with its cosy street cafés, is the perfect place to stop for a coffee and a slice of cake. Nestled amongst the pretty, traditional village houses, it’s a wonderful place to lose track of time – a relaxing way to round off any day on the island for two.

The climb up to the viewing platform of the Wasserturm is particularly worthwhile when done with someone else: the sweeping view over the village, the dunes and the sea, all the way to the neighbouring islands, is a panorama best shared as a couple – and one that conveys a very special sense of space and freedom.
